Research and Innovation Centre Pro-Akademia

Research and Innovation Centre Pro-Akademia (RIC) is an interdisciplinary Polish non-profit research organization, specialising in applied research in the field of circular economy and sustainable energy. For over 25 years RIC has been creating new products, technologies and services that support sustainable development in Poland and beyond.

Since 2015, RIC has been certified to have developed, implemented and maintained a Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 in the field of research services. Since 2018, RIC has been holding the European Commission’s HR Excellence in Research Award. Since the same year, RIC has been also holding the status of Observer of the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change as an organisation competent in the areas of the Convention, approved by the Parties of the Convention.

In SmartFood, beside coordinating the project, RIC develops novel hydroponic solutions for food production. RIC also implements the Urban Living Lab.

Łukasz Gontar, M.Sc., Eng.

SmartFood Principal Investigator

Lukasz is a graduate of Warsaw School of Life Sciences and Warsaw Academy of Cosmetics and Health Care. He contributes to SmartFood with his knowledge and expertise on horticulture and chemistry of healthy food products. He leads the scientific research in SmartFood project as a whole. In particular, he coordinates the development of SmartFood novel hydroponics installations for sustainable production of healthy urban food in corridors of apartment blocks.
Dr. Max Kochański

SmartFood Deputy Principal Investigator

Max is a graduate of Warsaw University of Technology and Warsaw School of Economics. He contributes to SmartFood with his knowledge and expertise on sustainable energy engineering, behaviour change, and experimental economics. Together with Lukasz, he co-leads SmartFood project as a whole. In particular, Max coordinates the integration of SmartFood solutions and co-leads impact evaluation of the Urban Living Lab.
 
Katarzyna Korczak

Researcher (energy and buildings)
SmartFood Project Manager & Communication Manager

Katarzyna is a graduate of Warsaw University of Technology and a Ph.D. canidate at the same university. She contributes to SmartFood with her knowledge and expertise in sustainable energy and engaging citizens in behaviour change. In SmartFood, Katarzyna is involved in sustainable energy demand research. She is also the project and communication manager.
Andżelika Drutowska

Researcher (hydroponics, insects, and food)

Andżelika is a graduate of Warsaw University of Life Sciences and a Ph.D. candidate at the same university. She contributes to SmartFood with her knowledge and expertise on horticulture and food analyzes. In SmartFood, Andżelika is involved in research on hydroponics, insects and food products.
Rafał Majzer

Researcher (co-design, solution integration)

Rafał Majzer is a graduate of Lodz University of Technology. He contributes to SmartFood with his knowledge and expertise on mechanics and product (co-)design. In the project he performs research on the co-design of SmartFood solutions, solution integration as well as sensing & control.
Iwona Adamkiewicz

Project Advisor, Researcher

Iwona Adamkiewicz is a graduate of Lodz University and a holder of Diploma of Joseph Conrad Scholarship (Master of Business Administration) at Brighton University (UK). She contributes to SmartFood with her knowledge and expertise on innovation, entrepreneurship, and risk management. In the project she is in charge of end-users involvement strategy, contractual relations, and risk management.
 
Katarzyna Łopalewska

SmartFood Chief Financial Officer

Katarzyna is a graduate of Enterpreneurship Academy in Łódź. She contributes to SmartFood with her knowledge and expertise on financial controlling and reporting of R&D projects. In SmartFood, Katarzyna is in charge of project finance management, reporting and internal auditing.
