2023.12.19 Workshop on plant cultivation in the corridor of an urban residential block

The green revolution within the Smart Food Urban Living Lab is underway!

We share exciting news from the block of flats at 1 Kaspijska Street in Warsaw, where a green revolution is underway as part of the SmartFood Urban Living Lab!

We have installed 20 innovative SmartFood Cabins on 10 floors of this block, enabling residents to grow plants right in the corridors of their own block On 18-19 December 2023, we organised a workshop in the corridors called 'Practical introduction to growing in SmartFood Cabins', where residents had the opportunity to learn all about how our innovative hydroponic system works During the workshop, participants of our Living Lab sowed their own plants such as lettuce, parsley, endive and arugula, taking their first steps into the world of hydroponic growing.

The workshop provided an opportunity for community integration. Neighbours support each other's cultivation: "Since you are going away for two weeks, you can leave your germinator with us, we will take care of your plants". - offered one of the workshop participants, Lucyna, to her neighbour.

Four participants in our collaborative research started growing in the target SmartFood Cabinets, using sub-growth plants provided by a team of scientists from the Pro-Academy Research and Innovation Centre. Now, the pilot study participants are blazing the trail for the other 16 residents who are starting their crops later in January! Many thanks to all Participants for their commitment, enthusiasm, and positive energy!
